Volunteering builds up confidence and self-esteem as well as providing social networks. Introducing a routine can also be vital in providing a pathway into employment. Our service users often look for work experience, and through volunteering, develop skills that will help them later in life.
Currently over 160 people support The Cyrenians through volunteering – and we’re delighted to report that the number is growing!
We really appreciate our volunteers and we are committed to making their experience with us enjoyable and rewarding. We welcome volunteers from our own client groups, the local community and companies and businesses alike.
Some volunteers work on one off projects, others with a regular commitment of time. Activities undertaken range from working in kitchens, driving, painting, decorating and befriending those in need.
Volunteering benefits everyone; the volunteers themselves, our staff, our service users, the wider community and the environment. Each year we hold an annual celebration for The Cyrenians’ volunteers to celebrate their work and to say “thank you” for their dedication.
For businesses, such as Sage plc, there are immeasurable benefits in volunteering with The Cyrenians. Our dedicated Volunteer Co-ordinator ensures the process is stress free and enjoyable from the outset, with clear objectives and meaning identified.
At The Cyrenians we recognise and thank all our volunteers who selflessly give up their own time to provide support to some of the most disadvantaged people in their local communities.
Thank you!
What our volunteers say:
‘My original purpose in volunteering with The Cyrenians was to gain experience – in working in the third sector, in working in finance; even just working in an office environment. Any careers advisor will tell you that an employer really values experience.
The Cyrenians gave me the opportunity to gain all of this experience, and much more. Ultimately, that experience is what got me my job here. It could hardly have worked out better!’
