FareShare North East

FareShare is a national food network charity, which distributes fit-for-purpose food to local community groups. The Cyrenians operates the franchise in the North East of England.

The food, donated by both retailers and producers, would normally go to landfill sites. Food is collected and distributed by refrigerated van and the project complies with rigorous food safety regulations.

Community and charitable organisations across Newcastle, Gateshead and North of the Tyne benefit from FareShare. Many involved distribute healthy food to communities which, due to economic and social exclusion, would normally consume a nutritionally poor diet. Such groups include homeless organisations and ‘Kids Clubs’.

FareShare relies heavily on the generosity of donated goods from food retailers and distributors, and we are currently seeking to expand our donor base. We are very grateful to Sainsbury’s, Marks and Spencer, Kavli and Greggs for their valuable support
