Our Patrons

General Lord Ramsbotham

General Lord Ramsbotham held the position of Her Majesty’s Chief inspector for Prisons for England and Wales from 1995 to 2001 and has an extensive knowledge of the homeless sector. As a consequence he has great empathy and understanding of the issues confronting both individuals and society. We are most fortunate to benefit from his insights.

Charlie Charlton

Charlie Charlton is a well-known BBC North East broadcaster who co-presents BBC Radio Newcastle's 'Alfie & Charlie at breakfast' show and presents the lunchtime television news for the local BBC. Charlie is a great supporter of The Cyrenians and is delighted to be our Patron.

Mike Worthington OBE

Mike Worthington OBE had a long association with the Community Foundation and led two campaigns on its behalf – one on youth homelessness and the Invest 2006 campaign, drawing attention to the funding crisis facing the voluntary sector in the region. As Deputy Chair of the Community Foundation, he was instrumental in setting up the NE Social Capital Forum, he chaired the Board of Northern Stage theatre and the Board of VONNE – the voluntary organisations north east network. Mike stood down as Chair of The Cyrenians in 2010, after serving his term of office, but is proud to remain involved with The Cyrenians as Patron.
