BBC’s Charlie Charlton becomes a Patron of The Cyrenians

Charlie Charlton, well-known BBC North East broadcaster, is to become a Patron of leading regional charity which supports vulnerable and homeless people, The Cyrenians.

Miss Charlton, who co-presents BBC Radio Newcastle’s ‘Alfie & Charlie at Breakfast’ show and presents the lunchtime television news for BBC Look North, joins Lord Ramsbotham the former Chief Inspector of Prisons who became a patron of the charity in 2007. Commenting on her new role Charlie said:

"I am delighted to become a Patron of The Cyrenians. I have been aware of their work for some considerable time and have been impressed by the way the organisation has grown in recent years and has developed innovative ways of helping some of the most disadvantaged and isolated people in our region.

"Although the charity is based in the North East I know that the value of The Cyrenians’ work is recognised nationally and I hope that through our joint efforts we will be able encourage their best practice to become taken up even more widely."

Stephen Bell added:

"Charlie has become a great supporter. I have learned over the time I’ve known her that helping people to improve themselves and ‘their lot’ is a subject close to her heart. I believe Charlie will be a great asset in our work and we are both honoured and thrilled that she has accepted our invitation to become a Patron.

"The opportunity which patrons bring to our work is immense. Over the last three years we have benefitted immeasurably from our connection with Lord Ramsbotham. His wonderful insight, vast experience and unswerving support have spurred us on to raise our aspirations and to reach out and serve a wider community of those in need."
