Employment Service

In September 2010, The Cyrenians opened its new Employment Service to clients and businesses in the North East. Delivering a powerful support package to help clients back into work.

The Employment Team work with clients from The Cyrenians and from homeless organisations across the region, providing people with the opportunity they need. Businesses work with The Cyrenians to provide job opportunities and work placements to clients, identify the talent and potential of the people we work with.

We provide a service to match the needs of businesses to the skills of clients. This leaflet highlights the programmes we deliver and how businesses can get involved.

The BAOH programme was developed in 1998 to make businesses part of the solution to homelessness, nationally. In 2010, The Cyrenians were asked to deliver the North East programme.

Led by businesses through Business In The Community, BAOH provides training, support, opportunities and spectacular results! BAOH The North East is guided by the businesses we work with, to deliver energy and commitment to the programme and ensure the needs of business are met.

Businesses deliver the following elements of the programme.

  • 2 Week work experience placement
  • A written reference at the end of the placement
  • Host Day 2 of the 2 day training programme prior to work placements
  • A ‘buddy’ for the 2 week work placement
  • Job coaches to be mentors to clients

The BAOH programme identifies clients and provides a short interview for the 2 days Ready to Go training.

Ready to Go Day 1 explores clients’ self esteem, motivation skills, hopes and aspirations.

Ready to Go Day 2 trains clients in CV preparation, interview techniques and workplace etiquette.

Ready for Work – 2 week work placement

Post Placement Support – Action Days and Job Coaches are provided to maintain the momentum that clients gain from the course while accessing work.

Employment Coaching Service

The team work with clients from a range of backgrounds and with a variety of skills and experiences. Our service starts with advice from our Employment Coaches, with whom clients are partnered throughout their journey into work.

Coaches work with clients on the practical areas of their journey, such as CVs, highlighting training courses and certificates required by their chosen area of work. Motivation, confidence building and support tackling barriers to work are all addressed, meaning that when a client starts work, they’re in great shape to thrive in their new role.

Clients can access all of the support that coaches offer even when they’ve found work to ensure their incredible achievements are maximised.

Employment Support Training

The Employment Support Training course is a 7 module course to provide clients with the skills and direction they need to be successful in their search for work. The course, bought in from the USA, focuses on a series of individual modules open to all of our clients. Modules are delivered one afternoon per week and cover the following skills;

  • Financial Basics and Time Management
  • Managing Change
  • CVs and Transferable Skills
  • Cover Letters & Job Search
  • Interview Skills
  • Workplace Ethics
  • Common Work Challenges

Organisations can support the training programme by providing rooms for training days and expert help for the sessions.
